State of Mañana

It’s a weird feeling to be simultaneously dry of ideas when I’m writing and filled with ideas when I’m not. Our project board/ideas for new project board just keeps growing larger. Meanwhile, I sit in front of half-finished projects with that sense that there is nothing left in my brain. Part of the reason for the long hiatus in my blog was just that a sense that I was unable to write, along with an endless list of things that needed to be done for each house. Well, the endless list is still endless and growing larger than we can finish anything, but staying in one city for a while is helping unlock my brain.

Albuquerque is simply beautiful. Each morning I get up and look out my window and am filled with joy at having moved here. I remember this sensation from when I first moved to sunny Memphis from cloudy Columbus. I stood on my balcony with the sun warming my face, laughing out of pure joy. So part of this is just sunshine and newness. But part of it is that New Mexico is filled with art and natural beauty.

New Mexico, as we are told often, is the “land of mañana.” Our realtor explained it to us as “mañana does not mean it will be done tomorrow. It just means not today.” Certainly this is true and anyone from Denver or Chicago or Columbus (or heavens forfend, Vienna!) will be taken aback by the casual approach to time. But we are freshly from Memphis, which is not called the land of mañana, but may as well be. So we are comfortable with everything taking a little longer. Besides, it sort of matches my brain state these days.

Yesterday was the start of the International Balloon Festival, the largest hot air balloon festival in the world, so we walked six miles up the Bosque trail hoping to catch a glimpse of the balloons. We saw just seven balloons so clearly we were in the wrong place or at the wrong time. Oh well! Mañana! Right?

Speaking of things coming soon, I will be joining in on NaNoWriMo next month. October starts “Preptober” an opportunity to prep for the novel writing mania of November. Also in November I will be taking Dean’s Relationships Collection course, so anticipate me huddling up with my computer in the Albuquerque sun writing like a fiend who doesn’t know the meaning of mañana. If you want to friend me on NaNoWriMo, I’m SereneWriter.

I am off to write. See you tomorrow friends! And by tomorrow I mean mañana, of course.

Rest in beauty and be well!
