Health Update

It’s been a few days since I’ve written anything and this is largely due to experiencing overwhelming fatigue. Since being so sick in February/March there have been times when I’m too fatigued to stay vertical and couldn’t think well enough to write. Fortunately the severe fatigue is rare and I’m lucky that I can afford the time I need to rest while it is happening.

At these times, Kris Rusch’s book Writing with Chronic Illness is an important tool for me. I read it when she first released it in April, 2019 and found it useful then as a way to understand how to organize my writing through waves of difficulty. It’s even more helpful now. I’m not the only one dealing with this. More than a third of people who contract Covid19 experience recurring bouts of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and this is also a problem for people who have contracted other viral diseases.

I reviewed the book in February when I was suffering through what looked like (and still looks like) Covid-19, so I’m not going to review it again. I’m just going to remind my friends that if you are trying to work while dealing with any sort of chronic or recurrent illness, this is an excellent book to read or re-read.

This week I completed a variety of kitchen and pantry prep work for the new way of eating, which starts tomorrow. I’m looking forward to it. This is the first time I’ve approached anything with help from a team of doctors, psychiatrists, and nutritionists. It feels luxurious beyond belief.

I scheduled this intensive diet program so that the most intense part would fall within my birthday month. Partially that was because I couldn’t imagine anything I wanted more for my birthday than good health. But another reason was to get help dealing with celebrations. They are often my downfall. Steve bought me a set of fine knives for creating beauty from vegetables. I think he’s right. Making healthy food beautiful is the way to go.

Be well, friends!
